Today I held the "breakfast-workshop" in Zürich about
Teambuilding for agile Teams: About the courage, NOT do understand Team Dynamics, as I announced it in this ==>
blog (pls follow the link to see a bit more about it)
The workshop, organised by the
Swiss-ICT working group "Lean, Agile & Scrum" was sold out: About 25 persons attended physically, about…

The title can be read in two ways. Information Technology works and yes, SF management is paying out. Turnover and profit climbed to an alltime high! Crisis, what crisis.
My november blog described the introduction proces of SF management both as management style and as concept for our businessplan 2009.
It was exciting to see that each manager was so proud of his stunningly "simple" SF based plans for 2009. Especially the first rule of SF: if something does not work (anymore)…

Hello folks, I thought I'd update you on the success of the
UK map of SF practices, the map has had 21, 212 views in the last 9 months.
The next project I hope we can all contribute to is developing a Solution Focused Approaches wikipedia page. The plan behind this project is to enhance the amount of information on the net in relation to…

"Agile" Project Management is one of the recent buzzwords. And it has a lot in common with SF (see
Solution Focused Agility in Projects and Management)
One of the four "
values" of agility is:
"Individuals and interactions over processes and tools"
Indeed: working together in a project as a self-competent and self-organized team…

I recently read the book Nudge by David Thaler and Cass Sunstein. Subtitled Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth and Happiness, the book connects to the movement in behavioural economics which looks at what people ACTUALLY do when faced with choices, rather than what they OUGHT to do if they acted rationally. Thaler and Sunstein talk about people acting as 'choice architects' for their customers or users. For example, the way food is displayed in…

It seems to me solution-focused strategies are blossoming everywhere. Or maybe I see them everywhere. Whatever the case might be, I was not expecting to find anything regarding Solution-Focused approaches in a book whose subtitle is: "a surgeon's note on performance" (the book is
BETTER, the author is Atul Gawande). Yet, there it was: a…

In the past two months we prepared our stratey and budgets for 2009. Since we are listed on the AEX, the Amsterdam Stock Exchange we have to work with a stringent format and a lot of rules apply! Making strategic choices in this roller coster economy was easier then you think. Do not attempt to "predict" the market, work with you strenghts and align your organization for stormy weather. Take a firm grip on the stearing wheel!
This year I decided to make a solution focused businessplan. It…

This is the most famous one of the 36th strategy, immortalized in the form of a Chinese idiom: "Of the Thirty-Six Stratagems, fleeing is best." (三十六計,走為上策 - sānshí liù jì, zǒu wèi shàng cè)
This seems to me similar to the SF-principle: "If it don't work - try something different"
What's about the other 35 strategems? How do they fit to SF?
Well, looking in…

Here in the town of Cheltenham, UK we have just finished our annual festival of literature. Fantastic event, in fact over 200 seperate events over 10 days with authors from all fields - fiction, politics, science, biography, philosophy, childrens' books and much more - speaking about their work, reading from it (a little), debating, signing books and generally having a fun and improving time. Some of my favourite events this year included Tony Curtis (a real genuine Hollywood legend and still…

I was very excited to listen to a teleseminar recently about a Solutions Focused approach to communities, countries, and the world. The teleseminar was by Eleanor LeCain on "Breakthrough Solutions That Can Improve Your Life and Change the World". Eleanor talks about Citizen Solutions councils that can identify solutions that are already happening in their communities and states, but not widely known about, and get them up onto the internet at a website called …

I have introduced SF management in my organisation. A high Tech IT company with some 140 specialists. The goal: improve the bottom line result (profit) and have more fun! We have just finished an extensive workshop with the management team. The ball is rolling. I will keep you posted on progress.
Allways looking for CEO's and managers with experience in this field to share knowledge and experience.

For a long time I have felt that democracy is out of date and that there must be a better system for organising complex human society. Sort of SF on a macro level. I came across Brian Robertson who created a software company called
Ternary Software to implement and prove all the modern practices for software developement and human organisation. The theories had to be practical and work to run a successful organisation.
The new approach is…

Few weeks ago I was asked by an IT company to create a proposal of workshop focused on dealing with clients for managers of SW projects. As introductionary meeting run in very nice atmosphere and it was quite easy to establish common platform with the prospect, I became seriously interested in cooperation, despite the fact IT companies are not my typical clients.
By the way my prospective client has mentioned the company follows
the agile… Continue

Hello I'm just running a 1 month
quick poll to gauge how people feel that they are able to keep up to date with developments in the UKASFP, please could you cast a vote.
I hope that as part of my National Development Role I will be able to respond to the majority view of whether the current framework of being informed of developments is good enough.
cheers

Jeff Hawkins, the guy behind the Palm Pilot, wrote a book published in 2005:
On Intelligence.
The title says it all.
I found the book very interesting, because Hawkins’ point of view is very different from that of many brain researchers.
For example, basing his…

Last week I asked in the Solutions-List for some helpful inputs concerning benchmarking:
In the beginning of the next week I have a meeting with one of the established consulting companies for "benchmarking" (see e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benchmarking).
What I observed is, that the focus of benchmarking is on the difference between the scores for business critical measures of the own company (asking for the benchmark) compared with the best scores of similar companies… Continue
