Sharing and building Solution Focused practice in organisations

Hello all!
In „Solution Tools“ Susanne Keck describes how she works with a Timeline. I also like to use this tool and I have created a variation of it: the Curvilinear Time Line. Here is the description of the idea in German and –with a great support from Sue– in English.

Peter,

I like the visual representation of the curvilinear time line. It almost becomes a "pin-the-tail-on the donkey" exercise and could be made a bit of fun for both individuals and teams. It also again helps highlight that changes is always happening and to focus on the useful exceptions.

Regards,
Rod
Hi Peter

In the (English) book:
Günter Lueger / Hans-Peter Korn (eds.)SOLUTION FOCUSED MANAGEMENT (Rainer Hampp Verlag) in is this article on page 10 this "curvlinear graph" also is described:

Günter Lueger Solution-Focused Management: Towards a Theory of Positive Differences

and also here in the same book on page 206 you find it:

Günter Lueger Solution-Focused Assessment: New Ways of Developing HR-Instruments

Cheers,
Hans-Peter

PS: I upload here more about this book!

Wow Hans-Peter!
What can I say!
In a first moment I was a little bit embarrassed, that I didn't know about your article and published this tool like a new combination / creation of mine. But in the other hand I'm proud that I have found the same good idea for myself in my own way. It shows, how good solution focused thinking works: It can lead different people in different places and times to the same or similar tools, solutions, ideas and practise.
Great!

Regards

Peter
Well, Peter, one of the most powerful SF-means is to work with "positive differences". So, it is clear, that based on the question: "When in the past did you observe / experience that ... xxx ... worked a very tiny bit in a better way?" automatically leads to a "curve" on a timeline.

By the way: Such a timeline is described by Günther Lueger since many, many years... for example in an article in this book (March 2005) also:
Positive Approaches to Change: Applications of Solutions Focus and Appreciative Inquiry at Work (Solutions Focus at Work) (Paperback) by Mark McKergow (Editor), Jenny Clarke (Editor)

Cheers, Hans-Peter
Hi Peter and Everybody Else,
Formany years, even before my SF learning, I have worked with the classical timeline in counseling and found it very helpful to clients to discover the good times and to find like minded activities as solutions to situations where they got stuck. The Curvilinear Time Line is a bright addition to help in situations where clients are prone to see nothing good happening. It seems to me very helpful in situations where one does not want to go too far back in a sordid and unhappy past and thereby focusing on problems. It also seems to me that this can be very handy when one wants to investigate a particular low on the classical timeline by braking it up with the Curvilinear Time Line. It can reveal some good and exceptions that is useable even in the worst of times. I will definitely try this the next time round when it is appropiate.
I am still amazed at the spirit of sharing in the SF World. Thank you everyone that contributes to this spirit. The longer I dwell aound here, the more excited I get with the possibilities of SF. It is a priveledge to be part of this great movement.

Best wishes.
