I'm a lecturer (specialising in Christian Ethics) and the quality coordinator (something I have moved 'sideways' into over the last few years) at Ghana Christian University College - a small private HE institution that currently offers undergraduate programmes in Theology and Development Management - but seeking to expand its offerings. As part of this we in the process of developing a relationship with the Global University for Life-Long Learning (GULL) (led by Dr Richard Teare - formally Principal of the IMC business school) which provides a framework for recognising work and community based learning using and action learning methodology. We hope to be able to offer programmes in leadership and educational practice (as a start) to businesses, schools and colleges, NGOs, public bodies, churches and local communities. If you are interested in using AL to integrate learning into experience and practice you might find GULL very interesting. (BTW AL has interesting parallels with the 'palava' tradition in west Africa in which members of a community will discuss issues round and round until a solution emerges that satisfies everyone - usually summed up with a pithy proverb!)
I'm very new to SF. I came across the approach a few weeks ago while doing some research reading in TQM in higher education. One of my favoured authors on the subject, Edward Sallis, gave a report on the introduction of SF rated performance appraisal into his institution Highland College in Jersey. I was immediately hooked and started adapting our appraisal scheme to an SF model. I subsequently done a lot of reading and I'm discovering what a useful tool kit this is.
One of my goals at the moment is to keep all my scholarship integrated - I'm working with themes - virtues, practices, learning, systems, questions, empowerment and seeing how they form patterns of configuration in the different methodologies I'm currently involved in - TQM, AL and now SF. I can see how SF can work with kaizen and quality circles but I'm wondering how it might work with AL. Have you tried to use SF injunction with AL or vice-versa. Can you point me to any literature on the subject.
All is well,
thank you!! :)
Module 3 went well, the moving process is ongoing...
I might have a business proposition for you, I will contact you next month when I am in California for good.
Ciao!
Hi Svea, mission accomplished. I was on the first row at the Founders' Plenary session at EBTA with eyes, ears and a video camera. I'll send you a copy if you send me your post address.
Hello Svea,
a hard copy is fine - just saw on a DVD from a Cologne workshop a sequence of Steve and Insoo on the miracle question: Steve explains the role of the silence within asking the question...
you know that learning to be silent is important in my world ...
Will have a look at your African page - have the feeling understanding your questions will help me to better explore and understand in Budapest.
You want to learn more about "Solution Focus"? You prefer a "step by step" introduction instead to start with reading somevoluminous books? You would appreciate to have a complete "helicopter view" on SF after the first step…
If you’ve just arrived at SOLWorld.org (the SOLWorld ning group), you may be looking at all the features and wondering where to start. This note might be helpful…
