Sharing and building Solution Focused practice in organisations

Solution building (instead of problem solving ;)): King Akbar and the cord

Once upon a time Akbar, the King of India, wanted to prove the talent of his ministers. Up to their biggest surprise he stretched a cord in front of them and gave the task: 'Who of you can shorten this cord without cutting or
knotting it?'
The ministers were puzzled and tortured their brains. At last a very wise man
stood up, he stretched a longer cord next to the first. So he hasn’t cut it or hasn’t
tied a knot in it, but the cord became shorter!
King Akbar was highly impressed by his minister’s solution and used his wise
suggestions for other questions from then on.

I discovered this story in the book 'Von der Weisheit der Märchen' by Susanne Stöcklin-Meier, in an other german version you can read it here.

If any of the native engl.speakers feels like adjusting the language, I'll be very thankful.

Thank you, Kati, for providing this nice story!

And I also like the conclusion of this story I read in the German version:

"This cords stand for different versions of "truth". So: Don't cut or bend or tie the truth of a person. Lay aside your own truth. And let the others evaluate what of both versions of truth each of them will prefer...."
and thank you Hans-Peter for this additional translation - I would have been to lazy to check the German version.
Kati you are a wonderful contributor with uplifting nice stories :-) THANK you too

You want to learn more about "Solution Focus"?

You prefer a "step by step" introduction instead to start with reading some
voluminous books?

You would appreciate to have a complete "helicopter view" on SF after the first step…
